MKII WP

The MKII white phosphorous grenade was designed after the MKII gas grenade, the rings on the bottom half of the gas and the color code is the only possible way you can tell them apart. There were over 150,000 MKII WP grenades delivered to the AEF during WWI. The body is constucted of 2 sheet medal cups and it is painted either gray or has a gray stripe around it.

M15

The M15 WP grenade was a two peice sheet medal construction. The grenade was used during Koreaand the early days of Vietnam. The body was painted blue/gray with a yellow band around it. The markings consisted of WP, SMOKE, lot #, loaders initials, and the date of filling.

M34

The M34 body is made of a rolled sheet steel with serrations, to send frag and WP when the grenade would burst. The botom was tapered in to fit on the M1 rifle grenade adapter. After the grenade bursts the WP burns about 5000 degrees for 60 sec. This model of WP grenade was used during the vietnam war. Early model grenades were painted gray with yellow band and yellow markings, but later grenades were painted light green with yellow band and red markings.
